Diggle F.C. News:

  1st TEAM - Match Reports

08/03/2014 A Netherton v DIGGLE FC

Netherton 0 Diggle 2 (and a half)

With 8 players missing including 2 keepers it really was a rally call for us to put out a decent team. We had 3 1st team debuts. Brian Lord answered the call as keeper, Martin Joseph Mayall full back and our International flyer from down under (Darren) played their part in a brilliant all round team performance

Lordy in Lycra saved all that came his way and kicking was top draw.
The Walking Dead centre half pairing of Simon Finegan and Danny Cheetham (both suffering arthritis) Wayne Broadbent and Martin were strong in defence. Midfield quartet of Jordan Holt, Keith Martin, Michael Clune and Jamie Macfarlane were colossal and hard working while the front two of Nathan Boote and Kieron Mayall were always an option and rewarded with a goal each

Aussie Darren made a solid debut as sub when Danny's back went

A great team effort and performance

Goals: N Boote, K Mayall

Man of Match: K Martin

01/03/2014 Brittannia Sports v DIGGLE FC

Britannia Sports 1 v DIGGLE FC 2
Diggle Rule over Britannia!

Diggle FC resumed the season again 5 weeks on from the last game with a tricky away game to Britannia Sports. Diggle started the game brightly and could easily of been 3-0 up after the first 15 minutes with Matthew Taylor going close striking the post and side netting, and fellow striker Nathan Boote wasting a 2 good chances to put Diggle into the lead. Britannia didn’t threaten much during the first period but a great save by Diggle keeper Gaz Mcwatt just before the break, kept the score at 0-0 going into the interval.

In the second period Diggle started brightly again, but it was the home side that took the lead in the 54th minute after a fine header from a corner. Diggle stayed patient and stuck to the task, and struck back in the 60th minute when Jordan Holt showed great tenacity and strength on the right wing before crossing for Boote to prod the ball home from close range. Diggle took the lead in the 67th minute again from a Holt cross, this time finding Taylor who kept his cool before picking his spot and score the winner. As Britannia pushed for an equaliser Diggle stood firm and defended well, soaking up the pressure to collect a well earnt 3 points!

Scorers: N Boote , Matt Taylor.
MoM: Danny Cheetham
