18/1/14 v Newsome Reserves (h)

Huddersfield FA Challenge Trophy Round 2

Diggle FC 5 - 4 Newsome Res

This was a far better display by Diggle than their previous two meetings in the League this season which had returned no points.

Diggle were 2 up after 19 minutes with goals from Swallow and Andrew, catching out Newsome with some determined and free flowing football. Hayes in particular was running riot down the right. Diggle then eased up perhaps thinking it was going to be a stroll - although previous encounters with Newsome should have alerted them otherwise. Newsome struck back on 30 and 40 minutes and it looked like the teams would turn round at half time all square. Swallow however had other ideas and nicked his second on the stroke of half time.

HT 3-2

Diggle spent virtually all of the second half in control of the game apart form the last 10 minutes when the referee made a series of strange decisions.

Scoltock put Diggle 4-2 ahead on 62 minutes following a terrible mix up in the Newsome defence allowing Scolly to round the keeper and walk the ball in.

Ten minutes later the referee awarded Newsome a penalty when the ball struck Jackson in the chest and Newsome converted to make it 4-3. This could have given Diggle a nervy last 15 minutes if it wasn't for Swallow who immediately went up the other end and claimed his second hat trick of the season.

With the 2 goal parity re-instated Diggle were comfortable again apart from the aforementioned period of strange refereeing. Newsome scored their fourth in the 90th minute and Diggle saw out the 3 minutes of added time around the opposition corner flags.

A well deserved victory for Diggle.

14/12/13 vs Meltham Athletic Reserves (a)

An ugly day for football in very windy conditions. Diggle scraped a win against a dogged Meltham side thanks to a last minute winner from Paul Swallow.

Tomlinson, Ryder and Chew also put in solid performances.
